General:
Perennial herb, often matted, stolons thread-like, sprawling, with minute, rounded leaves; stems erect, to 40 cm tall, delicate, nearly glabrous, not hairy in lines, purplish above.
Leaves:
Mostly on lower part of stem, round below to linear above, 5-25 mm long, tips blunt to round, clasping at base; unstalked.
Flowers:
Inflorescence very open, sparsely glandular; hypanthium 0.8-1.5 mm long; petals 2-8 mm long, white to rose-purple, notched at tip; sepals 1-4 mm long; stigmas sometimes cylindric.
Fruits:
Capsules, 2-5 cm long; stalks 2-6.5 cm long; seeds 1-1.4 mm long, pimply.

Habitat / Range

Moist slopes, boggy areas and open forests in the montane zone; rare in BC, known only from Wells Gray Park and Mt. Arrowsmith; S to ID, WY and CA.
